Chicken Little thought the sky was falling, sometimes I feel that way too. But when I am able to step out of the pit of darkness or of limited vision and open my eyes to the amazing world around me, sometimes the big stuff doesn’t seem so big and I see how much good stuff is all around.

Today I offer you “The Art of Perspective” adapted from ‘The New Book of the Art of Living” by Wilferd A. Peterson

Said the Emperor Marcus Aurelius: “Live as on a mountain.”

Mountain heights cause the spirits to soar. How can one be mentally small who associates with the magnificent bigness of mountains?

The mountaintop person lives on an invisible mountain of the mind.

  • Their perspective is broad, their outlook far-reaching.
  • Their spirit towers above the storms of life.
  • Their mind is lifted up, above doubt, cynicism and despair.
  • Their vision is high above the fog of petty things.
  • They look beyond obstacles, towards their goals for tomorrow.
  • They see the rainbows while those with lower vision battle with phantom shadows in the valley.
  • They see the sun in the east while valley-dwellers burn their tiny lamps in darkness.
  • Their head is in the clouds, but their feet are bedded in the solid rock of Fact and Reason.
  • They take the risks and dare the sky.
  • They live with the stars of their ideals, and although they may never grasp them they keep reaching towards them.
